Can You Continue Ffx After Beating Sin

It feels like only last week that I started typing up my introduction page. Because it was. I thought it'd take forever. Admittedly, I'm not done yet; this is just the final battle and ending. But still, I do feel a sense of accomplishment. We've gone across the planet, taken down the Church of Yevon and are about to deal the finishing blow to Sin itself. You ready?

Sin - The Nucleus [ ]

I know it's selfish...but this is my story!

Tidus. Is it though?

So that's where Luzzu went.

Braska's Final Summoning.

Head up to the Tower of the Dead. The glyph on the front takes you into Sin - The Nucleus.

This is weird. You need to run around and collect ten spheres, all of which contain items, while spikes pop out of the floor. If they hit you, you fall on your arse and have to fight a fiend. It's time-consuming and kind of irrelevant but hey; last-minute AP and items can't hurt (thought the spikes sure could, eesh).

Once you've got your tenth sphere, you're transported to Dream's End. You should recognise this iconic battlefield from the very beginning of the game, after Sin sucked up Tidus and his head got all 'foggy-like'.

Watch the scene. It's pretty touching as Tidus says that he hates Jecht, because he's expected to, but it's obvious that he no longer means any of it. He understands what Jecht went through and how hard it must have been to control Sin all this time.

It's time to put an end to it all -- Jecht transforms into what is considered the game's final boss, Braska's Final Aeon.

Effectively Final Boss Battle: Braska's Final Aeon

HP: 60,000/120,000 (20,000)
AP: 0
Gil: 0
Difficulty: 7/10

Duh duh, DAAAH, duh duh, DUUUH, duh duh, DAAAAH, nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh.

This is it; the final challenge of Final Fantasy X, set to the now-awesome Otherworld. It's so fitting, considering who Jecht is.

You start with Tidus, Yuna and Auron, so switch around accordingly. The two Yu Pagodas heal Jecht and remove any status ailments, and if you destroy them they come back stronger to the tune of the excess damage. Kill them with 99,999 damage and they come back with 99,999 HP, so you might want to slow down there friend.

Jecht Beam can petrify you, and his regular attack will shatter any petrified (I'm trying to not say 'stoned') character, so make sure that doesn't happen.

Triumphant Grasp is his first Overdrive, and it's a doozy -- powerful, and it can cause Zombie status.

If you summon an Aeon, he'll use Jecht Bomber instead of Triumphant Grasp, which does around 4,000 damage. So really, only Bahamut, Anima and the Magi are gonna survive it.

When you defeat his first form, he pulls a huge sword out of his chest (ouch), grows spiky wings, and his HP doubles. In this form, his Overdrive changes to Ultimate Jecht Shot, which does around 5000 damage to your entire party. Possibly an instant Game Over if you're underlevelled.

You can reduce his Overdrive Gauge by using the Talk command with Tidus -- this only works twice though, so save it for when you absolutely need it.

Throw absolutely everything at his second form; after this battle, you can't lose.

Watch the emotional scene. Jecht finally passes on, and Yu Yevon appears at last. We can't fight him however until he's run out of hiding places. Which means Yuna's going to have to summon her Aeons, and we're going to have to defeat them one by one. It's a fairly solemn end to our faithful companions, but it's a price we have to pay to end this vicious cycle.

Note: each of the Aeons has the same stats as a boss as they do when you summon them.

Author's Note #26: I think that's the first time video game history that a playable character has the same stats when you fight them as when you're using them.

Really, Ixion and the Magi? You had to spoil my flow.

So we've defeated the previous Final Aeon. We've defeated all of our own Aeons. Yu Yevon's got nowhere left to hide. He appears before us...

...the hell is this thing? It's a...bedbug with the Yevon symbol on the front. This is the mastermind of Dream Zanarkand, the perpetrator of an infinite spiral of death and despair? Wow.

Tidus: "Everyone! This is the last time we fight together, okay?"
Wakka: "Huh?"
Tidus: "What I'm trying to say is...after we beat Yu Yevon, I'll disappear!"
Lulu: "What are you talking about?"
Tidus: "I'm saying goodbye!"
Rikku: "Not now!"
Tidus: "I know it's selfish...but this is my story!"

Final Boss: Yu Yevon
Yu-yevon-final-battle-ffx.jpg
HP: 99,999

Well, this is it. It's less of a final battle and more of a symbolic crescendo, as the player realises that every single problem in the game has been caused indirectly by this thing, and now we have to work out how to get rid of it for good.

He heals himself for 9,999 HP every time you damage him, so without Break Damage Limit (you no longer have access to Bahamut) this fight could go on a while.

His own attack, Gravija, deals 75% damage to both your party and himself -- once again, it can't kill you. He can use Ultima, but you're under permanent Auto-Life status so the only way you can lose is if you petrify your own party, which would be hilarious but stupid, considering everything you have to go through between Dream's End and here.

There are a couple of obvious strategies here: the first is to deal more than 9,999 damage at a time, to outspeed his healing. The only way to do this outside of Celestial Items or using Dark Matter is to use Doublecast or Overdrives. If you do have the Celestial items, this battle will be over very quickly.

Alternatively, you can inflict him with Zombie. Yes, the final boss is vulnerable to Zombie (and a lot of other things too, actually). This turns his 9,999 HP healing counter into knocking 10% off his own HP on top of whatever damage you just dealt.

Choose whatever tactic you like to end this guy's reign of terror and put the Church of Yevon out of commission.

That's that. Yu Yevon is destroyed, and with it the fayth's dream ends. It's bittersweet, and while it's a cute conclusion to X's Tidus/Yuna romance, it's still not Tales of the Abyss. Still, the Final Sending is astouding, as Yuna finally gets to send Sin, along with all of her Aeons.

Final-Sending-HD.jpg

Cut to Yuna at Luca docks, whistling into the ocean, hoping that Tidus might respond. It's sad, but amazing in its way. Yuna's the hero, and this proves it -- her determination and strength carried her through to accomplishing something no-one else had ever been able to do; while Tidus was there for her, she proved on so many occasions that she'd stop at nothing to rid Spira of Sin forever, and she did exactly that.

FFX Ending - Yuna and Lulu.png

And with that Final Fantasy X comes to a close. Enjoy your ending; you've earned it. I would highly recommend the sidequests -- there's so much more to do with the game after the story, and battles to fight that make Braska's Final Aeon look like a lovely and temperate summer's day.

But for now, I'd like to thank you for sticking with me to the end. It's been great fun writing this. I hope you've had fun and got a lot out of this astounding game. I'll see you at some point in the future.
